Bob Alberti is a fine mainstream/swing pianist, but the real star of this lesser-known CD is the great tenor saxophonist Harry Allen. Allen, who often sounds a bit like Stan Getz, swings hard on the medium-tempo pieces and adds a great deal of warmth to the ballads. With bassist Frank Duvall and drummer Jonathan Wacker contributing swinging support, the quartet digs into such songs as "It's De-Lovely," "You'd Be So Nice to Come Home To," "Speak Low," and "Sunday." The music lives up to expectations, serving as a fine showcase for Allen and an excellent introduction to the piano playing of Alberti.
