Until the release of this CD in 2000, it was believed that tenor saxophonist Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis' final recording was in 1983; he passed away in 1986. Although he might have been ailing a little at the time, Davis sounds as stong as usual on this program, which was recorded in the summer of 1985 at a club in Copenhagen. Joined by a local rhythm section (pianist Niels Steen, bassist Jesper Lundgaard, and expatriate drummer Ed Thigpen), Davis performs eight of his favorite standards (including a rapid "Just Friends," "If I Had You," and a ten-and-a-half-minute version of "Shiny Stockings") plus his blues "Light and Lovely." There is quite a bit of energy displayed throughout the date (which includes just two ballads), with Lockjaw in typically fiery form.
