- Personnel:
- Howard Alden - guitar
- Frank Tate - bass
- Keith Copeland - drums
This Concord CD serves as a particularly strong showcase for guitarist Howard Alden who is featured in a trio with bassist Frank Tate and drummer Keith Copeland. Alden's repertoire contains plenty of unusual but superior choices (including Bud Freeman's "Song Of The Dove," "Flying Down To Rio," Duke Ellington's "Black Beauty" and "Ghost Of Yesterday") and he excels on all dozen selections. Whether it be a couple of Thelonious Monk tunes, Jelly Roll Morton's "The Pearls" or his own "Waltz For Julie," this is an excellent all-round set with plenty of variety for the swing-based guitarist. Recommended.
