The Washington D.C. tenor legend with the big buttery sound gives the warhorse "Harlem Nocturne" one of its most inspired reading. Elsewhere on his third Muse outing he shares the solo spotlight with the rarely recorded Johnny Coles, who seldom plays a superfluous note on his warm-voiced flugelhorn. This is a nicely balanced set of pretty ballads and jaunty originals like Cole's infectious "Wip Wop."
